A Raisin in the Sun

I'm amped about the upcoming tv movie adaptation of the acclaimed stageplay "A Raisin in the Sun" by Lorraine Hansberry starring Puff Daddy, Sanaa Lathan, and Mrs. Claire Huxtable herself, Ms. Phyllicia Rashad amongst others.

This story is phenomenal because this play was the first stageplay created by an black woman to be on Broadway. The play was made into a movie in 1959 starring Ruby Dee, Sidney Poitier, and Louis Gossett Jr. amongst other people.

Some of you may have read the book in high school, or some of you may have seen the film before but if you haven't the basic summary of the play is the following: a black family on the southside Chicago in the 1950s comes into a large sum of money and they want to use the money to better their circumstances but they have different opinions on how the money should be utilized. The story reiterates themes of hopes, trust, and the American dream.

The film is set to air February 25, 2008 on ABC at 8pm. This is big yall. How many times do we see positive black stories on television, especially regular television on the big wig networks like ABC.

Say Bye Bye to Diversity

"Court strikes racial diversity school programs"---Brown vs. Board was essentially reversed today by the Supreme Court. This will be a decision that they will live to regret. The Constitution may be color blind but this country is not. J.A.M.

History in the making...

Not many know but Disney is all set to finally create thier first black character based film, The Frog Princess. From what I've seen some are upset that Disney has waited so long but I say more power to them. I'm just a bit confused as why it couldn't have been "The Princess from the Nile" or "The African Princess" but who am I?!!? (Only the best blogger I know I know but honestly people let me make my point)

She is supposed to be a princess from New Orleans?!? I guess maybe some hurricane katrina awareness or maybe no...I have no clue but I'm still excited.

Anika Noni Rose is all set to do the voice over...YAY. I heard she beat out Tyra Banks and I'm oh so thankful because she honestly would have me walking out that movie theater. Ok folks...movie should be out sometime in 2009 so keep a look out.
